Yes, it’s that time of year when you look back over everything you’ve achieved and start reviewing your successes, isn’t it? I’ve had some amazing successes and adventures this year, I have to say, including working with Martin Parr, winning at the European Dating Awards, being a judge at the US Dating Awards, launching in Edinburgh, appearing in the Financial Times and the Telegraph, being a finalist in the Black British Business Awards and featuring in the book Screw Work Let’s Play among other things.

Monday 2 January 2017 is going to be THE busiest day of the year for the UK’s online dating industry with thousands of single people up and down the country logging on to their favourite dating sites and apps (and probably signing up to some brand spanking new ones) to take advantage of the New Year optimism that everyone feels at the beginning of the year. To give you a head-start, here are my top tips for creating and choosing the best dating profile photos.
I’m going to start with guys first as there are some slight differences between men and women’s dating photos. Continue Reading
To recognise and celebrate National Coming Out Day recently, I met the lovely Jacqueline Burns who is Vida’s Head of Gay and Lesbian Matchmatching. It seems that most mainstream dating apps are not designed with gay and lesbian singles in mind making it more challenging for them to find love online. Of course, there are gay and lesbian dating apps and websites out there but for the most part they are not focused on long-term partnerships specifically. Jacqueline offers a personal service which is seen as a breath of fresh air to her clients. At Hey Saturday, we work with lots of gay and lesbian clients so I was keen to find out more about her and the service they offer. Continue Reading
I was lucky enough to be invited to join the panel of the US Dating Awards this year, which was a great opportunity to learn more about the US dating industry and how Hey Saturday might fit in over there. I was involved in the judging process for three categories; Dating Expert of the Year (one of the best categories!!), the Best Dating-Related Marketing Campaign (I won the European version of this, earlier in the year so it made sense for me to be involved in this category) and finally the Scamalytics Safer Dating Award. The standards were really high from these and all the other categories. Head here to see the details of the finalists and winners.
Introducing Rachel in Edinburgh
One of my absolutely favourite highlights this year has been launching Hey Saturday in Edinburgh. I used to work for Sky TV (for my sins) and travelled to Edinburgh at least once a month to visit the staff based up there and absolutely fell in love with the city over that four-year period. I just knew the variety of locations and the cool vibe of the city completely aligned with the Hey Saturday brand so launching there was in my business plan from the get-go. I was lucky enough to be introduced to Rachel by our fab photographer, Nicole, and I absolutely love her work.
